Use Case: Creating SharePoint Dashboards from ControlPoint Reports
A common SharePoint scenario: As a site collection administrator, you need to keep up to date on a selection of important metrics in your SharePoint environment. How much storage is your site using and how close is it to the quota? Which of your sites are the most active? These are some pretty basic statistics that are important to know, but finding the answers to these questions is often not so simple. ControlPoint gives you the ability to generate reports with this data and more – and then SharePoint allows you to take that data and create automated dashboards to keep your team informed at a glance.
In this example, ControlPoint generates a Most/Least Activity report. The first step is to select the scope. In this instance, we’ll select the ten most active sites over the past month within the Alpha Snack Foods site collection. Next, we’ll set the output of the report to send the data to a SharePoint list, and identify the frequency in which you want the data in the list to be updated. Once you schedule the report to run, the list will be created – and SharePoint’s out-of-the-box chart web parts can be used to create impactful charts and graphs of your relevant information.
This can be replicated for any other reports that are relevant to you or your team. The information can be updated on an hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly basis. By having a dashboard, many different users can have access to reporting in a relevant and easy-to-view format.
