SharePoint Governance - Yes You Need It

Just found this article on the AIIM.org website about SharePoint Governance and thought it might be useful for SharePoint Governance managers.

"Successful SharePoint implementations are less about the technology and more about the business functions that are delivered to the end users. To insure that the delivery of the SharePoint solution is consistent and meets the needs of the users, a robust governance program should be established. Governance programs are one of those areas that can cover different topics depending on the focus of the organization. Successful SharePoint solutions require a governance program that covers the business aspect of managing the SharePoint implementation.

A SharePoint governance program will cover the:

  • Establishment of a Governance Board
  • Definition for release management, standards enforcement, and cross-functional delivery
  • Roles and responsibilities for using and administrating the SharePoint system
  • Actions to be taken in the resolution of issues or problems relating to the SharePoint system"

Wrap up on European SharePoint Best Practices Conference

The recent European SharePoint Best Practices Conference in London was an excellent event, superbly organised by Combined-Knowledge. The event catered for suppliers and users, developers and administrators with equal measure and all will sure to be on the look out for any further events organised by Combined Knowledge. An excellent mix of MVP provided the mainstay of the sessions, and I particularly liked 'Sharepoint Joel' Olsen's reference to Monty Python in his key note speech, for those who weren't there, he compared Sharepoint to that famous scene in Monty Python where the fluffy bunny killed all the Knights - no idea what I am talking about? Click this link (not for the feint hearted) - the idea being that Sharepoint looks like a nice fluffy bunny, but behind the scenes lurks a horrible monster if you are not organised, and of course, use 3rd party tools like ControlPoint to help you tame the monster!.

So all in all, a great event, the first Best Practises to be held in the UK, and a major success, and we at Axceler are looking forward to supporting such events in the future.
